Summerhill Hotel - Walking in the English Riviera
There is no better way of getting to know an area than through the soles of your feet, whether a short stroll or something a little bit more energetic. This approach is certainly true with regard to getting to know the English Riviera and its surrounding area. The South West Coastal Path goes right through the English Riviera landscape.
The English Riviera, together with its surrounding area is blessed with a wonderful array of landscapes, all within a compact geographical area. Much of the unspoilt coastline is managed by the Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust and the thread of the coastal footpath binds together areas of great beauty including Maidencombe, Hope's Nose, Saltern Cove and the nature reserve at Berry Head.
There is a walk for everyone to experience and enjoy, from the energetic young family to perhaps someone who is physically impaired and requires wheelchair-friendly access. The English Riviera Tourist Board has put together a series of 16 beautiful walks in Torbay and the surrounding area, which take in some of the finest viewpoints in the country.
The walks vary depending on difficulty and we have included grades to help. Grade 1 (easy) through to Grade 6 (for the more adventerous).
